On Friday, March 27, we were honoured to receive a visit from the footballing legend, former Liverpool and England Player, John Barnes.

This visit was arranged by the Maths teacher Mr Griffiths who lived with John Barnes through his years at university and they have been good friends since, John was keen to come and meet the remarkable community of students we have here at Todmorden High School.

He took time to speak with students about his career and the challenges that he faced.

He spoke about his upbringing in Jamaica and how he found a career as a professional footballer, he also talked at length about racism and some of challenges that he faced throughout his career.

John spoke passionately to all our students about the importance of education and the opportunities that are open to someone with a great education.

He then took a tour around the school to visit various classes. Lunchtime was an opportunity to get autographs and students were delighted to be able to get a ‘selfie’ with the star!

It was a fantastic end to a fantastic term for Todmorden High School students and staff alike.
