Town will be Neverland as Pan gets go-ahead

TODMORDEN'S Hippodrome Youth Theatre group is celebrating after being given the rights to produce a brand new musical adaptation of Peter Pan for their Christmas production.

The award-winning professional duo George Stiles and Anthony Drewe, whose hits include Honk! and their adaptation of Disney's Mary Poppins which recently toured the country, have given permission to just three amateur theatre companies to stage the show before is goes on general release next year.

The spectacular scenes of flying, swashbuckling, fantasy and the magical world of Neverland will be brought to life by a cast made up of local young people aged from 11to 18.

Helen Clarkson, HYT director and award-winning musical director said: "We are delighted to be given the chance to present this new musical version of such a well known story. It's an amazing adaptation and the music is beautiful.

"Cast and crew are now working hard to ensure that this is a magical evening and that the production is ready to 'fly' off the stage complete with professional flying effects."

HYT is the youth section of Todmorden Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society, the registered charity which owns and runs the 485-seat Edwardian Hippodrome Theatre in Todmorden and profits from the show will go towards improvement work and running costs.

"People sometimes forget that we are a registered charity and that we are all working to keep this amazing community building alive for local people and that everyone at the Hippodrome is a volunteer," said Helen.

"So please do come along, have a great night out and at the same time you will be helping raise money for the continuing work to improve and extend the Hippodrome'
