Last-minute Christmas travel plans were thrown into chaos today as high winds lashed Yorkshire.

Gales and heavy rain were reported across the Pennines, with more forecast until dusk.

In West Yorkshire, two fallen trees at Guiseley halted trains on the busy Leeds to Ilkley route, with cancellations expected well into the afternoon.

Further problems were reported with a river bridge at Selby, causing moderate delays; and between Halifax, Hebden Bridge and Brighouse.
