Fifty three members of Todmorden U3A’s Let’s Go group are pictured enjoying a sunny trip to the Ellesmere Port Canal museum.
They were welcomed with tea and then had 30 minutes cruise on the Shropshire Union canal, passing beneath a bridge designed by Thomas Telford. There followed a 45 minute guided tour of the museum’s displays, buildings and many boats.
Members were encouraged to board and view the extremely small living accommodation on the canal boats, which might have been home to up to seven adults and children plus dogs. Lunch followed at either the Cheshire Oaks centre or the new Marks and Spencer store. The next trip is to Lincoln on June 12. The next members’ meeting on May 16 will hear a presentation by Geoff Scargill of his experiences as a headteacher. Full U3A details can be found on website :u3atod.org.uk
