NEXT week’s Royal Diamond Jubilee celebrations are bringing back the memory of the Queen’s Coronation and her silver jubilee for a Todmorden couple.
Harry and Joy Toottell, of Burnley Road, were judging a fancy dress contest at the Hare and Hounds, Burnley Road, in 1977 - Harry was a local councillor at the time - when they bumped into Raymond Stuttard, who was in Harry’s scout troop, the 20th, at the time of the coronation in 1953.
Together they recalled the Tootalls living at Gledhill Street, Todmorden, with their then three-month-old daughter.
Joy said: “We had recently got a new 9” screen Ultra TV and Raymond recalled word got round and that the scouts came round and we fed them.
“It was only a small house and I don’t know how many lads turned up!”
