A BUSINESSMAN is one of the top 500 “tweeters” in the world about his specialist fields of social enterprise and social entrepreneurship.
Self-employed Todmordian Adrian Ashton works in a range of diverse disciplines centred on advice, training and consultancy for charities, companies, community interested companies (CICs) and social enterprises.
Adrian learned that he is among people using Twitter who have been ranked in order of social influence in his field by another social entrepreneur and blogger Lucy Wood, who contacted each individal or organisation included.
Lucy ran a programme, called PeerIndex, which although she says was not perfect nevertheless used information on people’s authority, activity and audience on social networks to give them an influence score, with Adrian charting at number 243.

Adrian said: “I was surprised, because of the nature of what I do - I can’t always publicise my work because sometimes it involves sensitive issues.
“But as a small business I know I have to shout about what I can in a way that is credible.”
Adrian explained this means he is an ethical entrpreneur, using other criteria than cost alone, for example quality of service and level of follow-up support when buying in equipment for his own business.
His clients have ranged from the prison service through a range of businesses and social groups to higher education colleges, his guidance and advice helping them make the right business decisions for them and ensuring they have the best contacts with other groups, organisations or advice resources that can help them.
