Motorists were caught up in one-mile queues today (Sat) due to gas works in Todmorden.
Temporary traffic lights were erected last night and the disruption is set to continue until Tuesday.
Workmen are replacing gas mains by Rise Lane close to the town centre roundabout.
As a result, traffic today stretched down Halifax Road to the Millwood bus garage and on Rochdale Road through to Walsden.
A spokesman for Northern Gas Networks said the work on Rise Lane at its junction with Rochdale Road was essential.
“This required temorary traffic lights to be put up on Friday evening,” he said.
“We know this is a very busy traffic area and we are working as quickly as we can to complete the job.
“We hope to be able to move the lights on Tuesday.”
The traffic lights are manned to try and limit disruption and Northern Gas Networks said it apologised for the inconvenience.
