Giant hailstones and electrical thunderstorms lit up the Calderdale skyline overnight and had readers up and out of bed taking pictures of the light show.

Darron Mullen captured this video of the storms above the Calder Valley last night.

Paul Talbot-Greaves sent in his picture of three huge hailstones and said: “Massive electrical storm just passed over Halifax. Hailstones the size of golf balls causing damage.

“Last nights hailstorm above Halifax dented our cars and caused damage to our outbuildings.

“Could hear windows smashing and loud bangs on the house roof. Quite scary!”

Carrie Chapman ‏also sent in a picture of one hailstone that fit into the palm of her hand.
