The first ever garage sale trail will take place in Todmorden on Saturday.

The sale is billed as a sustainable and fun way to de-clutter, search for treasure, meet the neighbours and raise money for charity.

There will be hundreds of items on sale at the event which has been organised by Incredible Edible Todmorden in partnership with Calderdale Council.

Estelle Brown, Incredible Edible Todmorden said: “We’re looking forward to a celebratory and fun day for everyone, and very excited by the diversity and enthusiasm of the people joining in, and the buildings hosting group sales, including two Grade I listed buildings – Todmorden Town Hall and the Unitarian Church as well the Elizabethan Old Hall, the oldest building in the town which is now not only hosting a sale, but is also on sale as part of the trail - plus sales in community spaces, front gardens and of course garages.”

Almost 70 individuals and groups will set up stalls right across the town selling treasure from their antic, their junk drawer, handcrafted items from makers and creators, vintage furniture, clothes, books and vinyl and camping gear including a campervan and vintage WWII survival kit of three hand-cranked air raid sirens, a giant brass gong that have been stored in an underground bunker in Halifax.

Calderdale Council leader, Coun Tim Swift, said: “We are delighted to be involved in this innovative event. Reducing the amount of waste going to landfill is one of the council’s priorities, and the Garage Sale Trail is a really fun way for local people to help achieve this. It will be a real community event, encouraging people to get out and about and meet new people. So if you want to de-clutter or you’re looking for a bargain, head to Todmorden this weekend.”
