POLICE are warning motorists to protect their vehicles following the theft of exhaust systems in Calderdale.
Detectives said thieves are stealing the exhaust systems so they can sell the metals contained within the catalytic converters, so have asked motorists to help prevent this by ensuring their vehicles are secure.
Detective Inspector Ashley Hewitt, of Calderdale CID, said: “We have had a number of operations running throughout Calderdale aimed at disrupting those selling stolen metal.
“Officers have visited local scrap metal merchants and have been stopping vehicles carrying scrap metal.
“In the meantime, I would encourage anyone who witnesses suspicious activity around vehicles, or anyone who has any information regarding these thefts, to contact police immediately via 101.”
