A team of 12 determined women will take part in one of the most punishing 10-kilometre events in the country tomorrow (Saturday, August 3) to raise funds for Calder Valley Search and Rescue.

Several of the group taking part in the Total Warrior challenge at Shap Abbey in the Lake District are from Hebden Bridge Boxing Club and friends of organiser, mum-of-two Vicky Conley.

They’ve named themselves the Valley Warriors.

Vicky, a childminder in and around Hebden Bridge for the last 16 years, says she came up with the idea because she wanted a challenge and because she wanted to help boost funds to help the CVSR continue their “phenomenal work”.

“CVSR are not just on hand for mountain rescues, they have been out in force over the past few days assisting flood victims in Todmorden and Walsden, which is proving to be vital in our recent weather conditions,” said Vicky.

“Many people may not realise that CVSR is run solely by volunteers, so every penny that we raise is vital in keeping their phenomenal rescue work going.

“We have raised funds of £437 so far, but would like to increase this figure as much as we can.”

Total Warrior is a test of strength, stamina, mental determination and team work and over the 10k course involves 25 punishing obstacles where participants needs to tackle fire, swamps, electric shocks, mud baths and walls up to 10ft high.

Because CVSR do not have an online donations page, the team is raising money the old fashioned way - in cash.

If anybody would like to make a donation, they should call in to Hebden Bridge Boxing Club and hand it to the owner Kate Dakers.

Kate can be contacted on 07732433243 for more information. Alternatively you can pass donations on to members of the Valley Warrior team. Donations can be handed in after the event too, Vicky said.
