While the Conservatives talk about sharing services with other councils, the Liberal Democrat-led administration has been getting on and doing it, says Calderdale Council leader Janet Battye.
Coun Battye (Lib Dem, Calder) said: “The current Lib Dem led administration is determined to bring down the cost of running the council. We have cut the number of senior posts by about a third since we took over in 2010.
“We have been looking at sharing ‘back office’ functions – for example an agreed county-wide scheme to share legal services - with a range of local authorities and this is already saving all concerned millions of pounds.
“The Conservative plans for closer link with Kirklees would be a backwards step as it would put all our eggs in one basket. Our approach – to work with whichever council would be best – is the right one and is already paying dividends.”
