THINGS to do and see and places to go around the district over the next few days.

l A weekend of live music at Barearts Studio Bar begins with The Free Sandwiches on Friday June 3 at 8pm. All Jazz era will perform on Saturday June 4 at 7.30pm and there will be an appearance by Neil Burrows on Sunday June 5 at 4pm. For more information, visit www.barearts.com.

l Todmorden Lions Club presents its annual June concert at St Mary’s Church on Saturday featuring entertainment by Harmony Revival and the Stockport Barbershop Harmony Club. Doors open at 1.30pm. Free admission by ticket, available from Age Concern, Todmorden Information Centre or any Lions Club member. There will also be tea, biscuits and a free raffle.

l The Fielden Centre hosts Daniel Bath in concert performing his latest songs with percussionist Razwan Sarwar on Saturday June 4 at 7.30pm. Tickets priced £7 (concessions £5) are available from www.handstogether.co.uk or on the door.

l Visitors to Todmorden Town Hall on Monday afternoons can take part in a programme of popular sequence dances to tuneful music from 1.15pm until 3.30pm. Use the entrance facing the chemist. Bring your own refreshments. Admission is £2 and all profits go to charity.

l ‘Insidious’ is showing at the Picture House tonight (Thursday). In the horror film, a young family moves into an old house and begins to suspect they are under siege from sinister forces when their young son inexplicably falls into a deep coma.

l Also showing in the coming week is ‘Winnie the Pooh’. Inspired by five of A A Milne’s most cherished stories, the Disney animation returns to Hundred Acre Wood where Christopher Robin is in danger and it’s up to Pooh, Rabbit, Piglet, Kanga, Roo and Eeyore to help their old friend out of harm’s way. l Members of the Calder Branch Labour Party are holding a curry night and quiz at the Trades Club tonight (Thursday). Admission is £4, which includes the chance to sample spicy meat and vegetarian curries with rice. The quiz will start around 8.30pm. All welcome.

l Explore streets and ginnels around Heptonstall during the next Calderdale Heritage Walk on Friday June 3. ‘Heptonstall Shadows’ will feature tales from the shadier sides of the village’s local history. Meet John Billingsley at the main Heptonstall car park, near the bowling club, at 7.15pm. There will also be walks in upper Rastrick on Sunday June 5 and around Savile Park on Tuesday June 7. l The Beat-Herder Festival’s newest stage, The Perfumed Garden, invites people to a pre-festival party at the Trades Club on Friday June 3. Optional dress code is ‘flower power’. All proceeds will go towards tent décor at the festival.

l Wilko Johnson will be on stage at the club on Saturday June 4. The trio also features Norman Watt Roy on bass and Dylan Howe on drums.

l After touring in 2007 and 2008, Californian guitarist Walter Strauss stops off at the Trades Club on Sunday June 5 as part of his 2011 UK tour. While rooted in American folk forms, his music evokes far reaches of the globe as well.

l Later on Sunday morning, people are invited to meet the countryside team and help to remove the invasive Himalyan Balsam from Hardcastle Crags. Anybody interested in taking part is asked to meet at the Midgehole car park shed at 10am.

l A RAG market will be held at two locations in Hebden Bridge on Sunday June 5. There will be stalls full of bargains galore for crafters, sewists, knitters and vintage lovers at the Masonic Hall, on Hangingroyd Lane, and at Bridge Mill, St George’s Square.
