A ROCK, blues and soul band is hosting a fundraising gig in memory of its lead singer, who died earlier this year, and named the event after his nickname.
The Travelling Windleburys will be playing the fundraising gig - Woodystock - for and at Todmorden Cricket Club, Burnley Road, Todmorden, on August 5 as a tribute to lead singer Phil Wood.
Keyboard player Mike Paul said: “The idea behind the gig is to raise some money for the club but mainly will will be performing as a tribute to Phil. Since Phil sadly died we have acquired a girl as lead vocalist, Maeve Shepherd, which has obviously changed the band material and our set list now also includes songs by arists like Linda Ronstadt, Elkie Brooks and Amy McDonald.
“Since Phil was universally known as ‘Woody’ and as the date is the Friday before the Todstock music festival at Centre Vale Park, we have called the gig ‘Woodystock’.
Tickets are £5 obtainable, preferably pre-gig, from Brian Windle, telephone 01706 813238.
