CONTRACTORS will move in next week to strengthen a culvert under Todmorden Market Hall as part of the town’s new £13 million flood defence scheme.
Most of the work, which will take four months to complete, will be carried out from within the culvert to ensure customers and businesses are not affected.
Attention will then be focused on culvert repair works along Rochdale Road, followed by construction of a new 500-metre flood wall between Shade Primary School and Morrisons supermarket, which is due to start next summer.
The Environment Agency’s contractors, Volker Stevin, have appointed a full time public liaison officer, Tommy Monks, who will be based at the works compound in Salford Way so people will be able to check on progress and raise issues of concern at any time during the programme of works over the next 18 months.
There will also be a public information room which people will be able to visit during working hours.
Mr Monks can be contacted at the compound in person between 8am and 5pm, by calling 07714 412130 or via email email@example.com.
