You helped famine victims

CIVIC guests were among those manning a fundraising stall for famine relief at Todmorden Market last Sunday.

Mayor and Mayoress of Todmorden, Coun Richard White and Rev Sandy White, and last year’s Mayor Coun Margareta Holmstedt worked alongside volunteers to sell donated items, raising £314.13 for the British Red Cross.

Co-organiser Belle Riley said the money will buy rehydration sachets, crucial in helping victims of the famine in Africa.

Belle said she wished to thank all who helped or bought things with praise for market traders who had donated an excellent selection of items to be sold, and Howarth removals, who had stored items before the day and taken usold items back into storage - these will be sold later in the year, this time to benefit the Help For Heroes charity.

Norma Marriott, of the Red Cross, was on hand to receive the money for use in the feeding programme.
