Festival was a memorable success from the first note

The first Hebden Bridge Piano Festival has just concluded in triumph.

It has indeed been a memorable weekend of wonderful, live, music-making and all concerned deserve many congratulations on a triumphal first event.

Six months ago, if someone had suggested a weekend full of music devoted to the piano, there would have been many who said that it would not work in Hebden. This weekend’s festival has proved any doubters most definitely wrong.

It has attracted young and experienced pianists of the highest calibre, in a series of recitals to delight and challenge the senses.

The substantial audiences at every concert were attentive and appreciative and it has also demonstrated that there is a demand for more classical music (light and serious) in this part of the Calder Valley.

We have far-sighted organisers, the right venue, enthusiastic supporters and willing volunteers all here in Hebden - so hopefully we can now look forward to more musical events of this kind, and in particular next year’s festival which will undoubtedly be an even greater success.

Dr Michael Troke,

Hebden Bridge.
