MRS Jones (April 14) asks why Hebden councillors are better at getting money out of Calderdale than Todmorden’s. I would suggest that the answer, in my experience, is a simple one.
In 2001, when I had the honour to be serving for Cornholme Ward on Todmorden Town Council, I asked the ruling Liberal Democrat Councillors, during the course of a full council meeting, what their policies for Todmorden were. The answer I got was that they didn’t have any policies!
Many would argue any organisation without something like a policy, strategic plan or road map is destined to fail. It’s like that Chinese philosopher said, “If you don’t know where you’re going, any road will take you there.”
