People, jobs and extra competition

I WAS pleased to hear that Sainsbury’s have decided to appeal against the refusal of planning permission to open a new store in Todmorden.

I still believe it will be good for the town and the residents as it will bring more competition to existing stores and will therefore bring more choice both in grocery items and prices.

I also believe it will bring people into the town as well as to the proposed store and so other shops will benefit from this increased trade and it will give a much-needed boost to Todmorden Market which has bben indecline for several years.

It will also bring jobs into the town and the “gateway site” will be cleaned up and landscaped which will result in a more pleasing approach in Halifax Road, which has virtually become a rubbish dump of late.
