43-year-old professional course record is smashed

THERE was a fantastic performance at Todmorden Golf Club for the second meeting of Halifax and Huddersfield Winter Golf Alliance.

It came from Crow Nest Park Golf Club, Brighouse, professional Gareth Evans who smashed the 43-year-old course record for professional players held since 1968 by Bernard Hunt by seven shots.

Evans came in with a gross 61, which included seven birdies in succession from holes five to 11.

He won the pro-am stableford competition with 44 points with partner Michael Campbell.

The course record at Todmorden for amateur players is held jointly by Richard Lupton and Dave Stafford.

Richard himself was at the club for the Alliance meeting on Tuesday and said: “It was absolutely fantastic and a complete joy to watch.”
