NEW environment agency rod licences have applied since March, so make sure you have your new licence with you, writes Ray Barber.
A full licence for coarse/trout, costs £25 pa and you must have one before you fish anywhere in England and Wales.
A concession costs £16.75 and is for age 65 and or over plus juniors age 12 to 16yrs – under 12s don’t need a licence.
Get a rod
licence from your local post office but you also need permission from the person/fishing club, which controls the fishing on the water you want to fish — for example a Todmorden Angling Association membership or day ticket (if sold).

We only issue day tickets for Grove Lodge and Cliviger Fish Ponds – also Lancs section of canal from lock 37at Summit West to lock 51 at Castleton, Manchester RD. These day tickets must be bought in advance from local tackle shops at £5, we do not sell day tickets for juniors.Anglers on day tickets may only have one rod set up and may not use keep nets. Keep nets are currently barred on our still waters until June 1 until stock fish become acclimatized.

l Club trophy match this Sunday on Cliviger Top Pond, draw up to 7.45am, fish 8.30am to 1.30pm, £7.50 all in. Phone 01706 837937 to sign on.
l Last Sunday’s trophy match was fished by 22 members on the Rochdale Canal around Kingsway, Rochdale. Conditions were cold and windy.
Results: 1 Gary Smith 4lb 8, all roach, caster; 2 Graham Mallinson, 4lb 2 roach and 1 tench, pole/caster; 3 Frank Szakaley 2lb 15; 4 Tony Simcock 2lb 14; 5 Ian Griffiths 2lb 2. Fish of the day was a roach of 13oz, caught by Bob Mckendry which was worth £22 to him.
