Angling: Carp call a winner for Frank

TODMORDEN Angling Society's latest Tuesday evening match was fished on Croft by 21 members.
There were some good catches with less than 3lb in weight of fish separating runner-up Chris Haworth from winner Frank Szakaley. Szakaley's haul included carp using corn feeder method and a similar mix brought good results for Haworth.

Dean Turner
was third using pole and caster, Rob McKendry fourth using pellet and waggler and Tony Taylor fifth using pole and caster.

Result: 1, F. Szakaley, 29lb 2oz; 2, Craig Haworth, 26lb 6oz; 3, D. Turner, 22lb 8oz; 4, R. McKendry, 18lb 1oz; 5, T. Taylor, 17lb 9oz.

The next match in the series is on Tuesday, July 7, on Lower Townhouse, with the draw being made up to 5.45pm.

The juniors have been busy recently with young anglers Joe Bleakley and Beth Haworth each chalking up a brace of successes.

Results for the match fished at Grove Lodge on June 12 were as follows. U12: 1, Joe Bleakley, 14oz; 2, Jake Nightingale, 11oz. U16: 1, Beth Haworth, 2lb 10½oz; 2, Alex Smethurst, 1lb 3oz.

Results of the match fished on the Rochdale Canal at Victoria Terrace on June 19 were: u12: 1, Joe Bleakley, 2oz; 2, Jake Nightingale, 1oz. u16: 1, Beth Haworth, 1oz.

Tomorrow night's junior match (Friday, July 3) is on Cliviger Top Pond. The draw will be made up to 5.45pm. Ring 01706 839145 or 07737 326812 to book on.

The senior trophy match fished at Cliviger Top Pond was fished by ten anglers and was won by Graham Mallinson.

Result: 1, Graham Mallinson, 11lb; 2, John Deakin, 7lb; 3, Andy Fletcher, 4lb 2oz.

The next match in on July 12 at Townhouse.

- TODMORDEN Angling Society's taster day will take place from 10 am to 4pm on Sunday, July 12, and this year is being staged on the Rochdale Canal's Short Length.

Pegs will be allocated at Dale Street Car Park in Todmorden town centre anytime between 10am and 4pm, so if you are interesting in trying out the sport or learning more about fishing, come along on the day - you will be given expert tuition on how to fish.

You do not need any tackle, bait or licence on the day - all these will be provided for you.

l JUNIORS are reminded they must purchase a Todmorden Angling Society annual licence - that is, become a member, before fishing any of the society's waters.

Junior membership is only £5 for the year for anglers under the age of 16 and is available from local tackle shops or The Pet Shop at 25 Halifax Road, Todmorden.
