Borough saved one of their best team performances for the last game of the season, but unfortunately they still lost.
Playing against Mixenden, a rapidly improving team, and having already secured a top four finish, the coaches used a new line up for an eight-a-side fixture.
Mixenden play in a very robust fashion and scored almost immediately.
Todmorden did n
ot lie down, and started to play some of their finest flowing football of the campaign.
Adam Duxbury had an excellent game in midfield and his probing passes set up a string of chances which only the heroics of Mixenden’s goalkeeper – their undisputed man of the match – kept out.
Duxbury hit the post and great saves denied Smith, Hanson, Griffin, Claxton, Minta, Duxbury and Horton.
As the locals grew frustrated, Mixenden broke and it was time for Battersby to pull off saves at the other end.
Minta and Horton defended solidly for a good period before another long throw undid them again.
Changes were made at half-time with Borough 2-0 adrift. Yates and Glover came on and immediately got in on the act. Glover found space and passed to Hanson, who brought the score to 2-1.
The keeper then thwarted both Glover and Yates before Griffin came on to score a second.
A scramble in the area led to the third and decisive goal for Mixenden.
Luke Glover won the for man of the match award for Borough, just edging Sam Battersby into second while Adam Duxbury played his best game of the season.
A second game saw the ever improving Leggett play well in defence while Claxton showed off his goalkeeping skills, Griffin scored a goal directly from a corner and Battersby also scored to take at least one win from the day.
