THIS year marks the 50th anniversary of Todmorden Golf Club's prestigious President's Prize and we are indebted to past club president the late Mr H. Sutcliffe and his wife who kindly donated the trophy back in 1958.
The year’s president Mr Joe Daniels was encouraged and inspired to join Todmorden Golf Club by his friend and sponsor Norman Jowett back in 1974.
In 1993 Joe was very proud to be elected captain of Todmorden Golf Club and his business background has contributed greatly to the club's success but Joe has always felt that the most important part of golf club life is friendship.
The second round of this 36 hole President's Competition was played on Saturday in good golfing conditions, rather warm with just a hint of a southerly breeze.
Last week’s leader David Haughton 40+38=78 had another good round this week and is now the newly crowned 2008 President's Prize winner.
David has always been known within the club as a very steady player and has enjoyed considerable golfing success recently with his chum Derek Parker - they have won the both the Rochdale and Worsley seniors opens.
Rod Hunt who was lying in joint third place last week had another good round this week 37+39=76 was runner up.
The prize for the best stableford points in the first round was won by junior member Dan Fielden with 40 points and the best stableford points in the second round was won by Russ Waring with 41 points.
There were eight “2’s” on Saturday attained by Clive Cook, Mick Redmond, Steve Shone, Mick Sparkes, Mike Sunderland, and Roger Wornell.
Kevin Johnson attained a “2” in both rounds and it would appear that Wayne Taylor is following in his dad's footsteps as father Terry had a “2” last week and Wayne had a “2” this week.
