WALSDEN'S Burton Cup hopes disappeared in a blizzard of extras and tumbling wickets at Clifton on Sunday.
They conceded 64 extras – 52 of them wides – as the home side rattled up a score of 245 for 8 and were then bowled out for just 75.

It was a very disappointing day for the second team who have become regular finalists in this competition over rece
nt years.

Jamie Royle was the only man to outscore the extras – his 78 laying the foundation for Clifton's score.

Josh Barnes' figures of 4 for 34 from eight overs and Daniel Howley's 3 for 57 shone on a difficult day for Walsden's young bowling attack.

Opener Ross Ridout, 22, and Max Gale, 10, were the only visiting batters to reach double figures as their 177 run defeat was completed in just 25 overs.

Kristian Garland - who had scored 77 for the first team the previous day - discovered how fickle the game can be when he was bowled for just two.
