The scoreline doesn't reflect how close this final, played at Nelson FC's ground, was.
Following half chances at both ends Colne broke the deadlock.
Up until then Borough’s back four – expertly marshalled by Joseph Ormerod and James Greenwood – had held well but they couldn’t be faulted for a fine strike into the bottom corner.
Colne increased the pressure and goalkeeper Reece Gill had to be on his toes with expert handling and positioning.
With the clock ticking down for half time Borough drew level. Mason Rowbotham showed great determination winning the ball and his pass found Sam Dunckley.
The pint size striker never needs a second chance and his instinct for goal brought his side level with a fine shot into the bottom corner.
The second-half began like the first ended with Borough taking the game to the opposition.
Skipper Ben Newall was driving his team on, and ably assisted by Callum Rooks, winning the midfield battle. The strength of Joe Hanson was a constant threat to the Colne defence which was living a charmed life.
Against the run of play Colne got back in front. A speculative snap shot deceived everyone and flew inside the post.
Borough and they went all out for the equaliser.
Chris Thorne came very close to once again levelling the scores. A long ball over the top into Thorne’s path for him to run onto. His power and pace left the Colne defence in his wake and his shot, despite giving the keeper no chance, rolled agonisingly past the post.
Borough threw players forward in search of an equaliser. Shots rained in on the Colne goal but the locals just couldn’t turn one into a goal.
Colne then caught them on the break and put the result beyond doubt with a goal that had a hint of offside.
At the final whistle both sides were given a well deserved round of applause for providing an entertaining game of football.
Borough had travelled in style to the game, Dave Guest of Central Garage supplying the with a team bus for the day.
