UNITED were far from at their best as they ended their long layoff but they were well worth the three points which keeps them in the promotion hunt.

They had not played since November and on a heavy pitch they inevitably took time to get going.

Ball struck first but Matthew Waldron and a 40-yard free kick/cross from Daniel Lively netted to give United a 2-1 interval lead.

Danny Clarkson was introduced at half-time and he scored his first goal for the club as, inspired by captain and central defender Darren Preece, United began to impose themselves on their opponents.

Lively grabbed his second of the morning and there was just time for Marc Walter to round off the scoring.
