TODMORDEN and District Bowling League's Dearden Trophy competition saw a high quality final from which New Street A emerged victors over Walsden A on neutral turf at Greenvale.
The match began in overcast conditions which improved as the match wore on.

New Street A gave Walsden A 16 chalks advantage as the match started but this was quickly wiped out as Jeff Melia produced a magnificent display of consistent bowling as he demolished his opponent 21-2.

Some close matches followed although neither team could take complete control. However, with two games still in progress, New Street A had managed to eke out a 20 chalk lead, which Walsden were unable to claw back despite a "captain's innings" from Geoff Crabtree who beat his opposite number 21-10.

The final match saw one-time Walsden player, Keith Rudman run out an easy winner at 21-9. This left New Street A as the winners of a high quality final by a margin of 21 chalks.

Congratulations go to New Street A who look likely to do the double of League and Dearden Trophy this season and commiserations to Walsden A who put up a gallant fight. The League would like to extend its thanks to Greenvale for their hospitality.
