IN the corresponding fixture at Greetland early in the season, Todmorden suffered a 6-0 loss, so this game was a good measure of their progress. Not only did they turn the result round this time, but they even went one goal better.
It was a bruising encounter, played out on a muddy pitch during incessant rain. But Todmorden rose to the task well. The opening exchanges were tight, but gradually Todmorden began to exert pressure on the Greetland goal. A tenacious George Wilson thumped in the second goal. Then, incredibly Deakin (who by this stage resembled a muddy swamp creature) repeated his earlier effort by scoring again with a deflected long throw-in. It was still a very tough game, but two more strikes from Wilson and a brace from Dylan Caldwell finally crushed the Greetland resistance.
