BOROUGH marching on in the cup and a couple of entertaining re-matches between sides two of the town's teams had beaten last week producing another good points haul and some decent football - not a bad day's work for Todmorden sides which had a fixture.
Todmorden Borough Reserves' clash with Wyre Villa Reserves was postponed and Woodhouse United had no game scheduled, but Todmorden Borough led the town's senior sides home with that superb cup quarter-final win.
And there was plenty of entertaining football to be had in the other fixtures too.
Both the town's Rochdale Alliance sides faced opposition they had beaten the previous week and both were involved in closer results this time.
In the Asia Restaurant Division One rematch between Tod United, whose home base is now Jack's House, and Syke it ended all square in a game which saw some entertaining football in difficult playing conditions following the previous night's downpour.
A tight first half saw both teams playing well in the conditions, going in level at half time. Syke took the lead in the second half, although the ball appeared to go out for a throw in before it finally ended in the net.
United were soon back level with an Eddie Marshall strike following a good move which saw Mark Smith, David Williams and Jake Goldie link up, Marc Walters stepping over the ball for Marshall to fire home.
Walters then hit the post before Marshall was brought down in the box and Walters slotted away the resulting spot kick to put United in the lead. Syke levelled thanks to a bullet header from a corner kick.
Syke also had a goal disallowed but Tod also had good chances including two late in the game, one of the, right on the last kick.
But a point seemed fair, and allowed United, in their new kit provided by Todmorden firm Mark Routledge Electrical and reminiscent of Holland's classic orange with black trim from the '74 World Cup, to leapfrog their opponents in the table.
In the Matthew Montgomery Division Two second match between Todmorden Veterans and Pleasant it was the Vets who came out on top again, although this time just by a single goal.
Pleasant are a useful side and this was always going to be a harder game than last week's 7-1 victory.
The Vets got into their opposition early and were on top, creating half a dozen chances but the ball just would not go in.
Finally, as the first half wore on, a cross left a Pleasant defender with no option but to go for it and he headed the ball into his own net.
It was the only goal of the game, despite more good chances for Vets and Pleasant having a goal chalked off.
Vets might be competing in an open age league but theirs is a strong squad.
With former Hebden Royd Red Star striker Jason Bailey - a prolific goalscorer - in the ranks again from this weekend, and with the strength in depth to make timely substitutions when veteran legs begin to tire, they hope for a good season.
As it was this victory took them up to third and like United they leapfrogged their opposition in the table with this result.
In the Rochdale Sunday League Woodhouse United were without a fixture this week but return in cup action.
