TODMORDEN’S Centre Vale Park hosts its second national competition of the year this Sunday (April 10).
Sixteen teams from much of the country will play down to two finalists in the British Crown Green Ladies Bowling Association Club Championships, with play starting at 9.30am and continuing through the day.
The teams, with the nearest for local supporters to cheer being Savile Park of Castleford, and Acregate of Preston, will travel to Todmorden from Staffordshire, Cheshire, Derbyshire, Warwickshire, Cumbria, Shropshire, the Isle of Man, Merseyside as well as Yorkshire and Lancashire.
They will play a set of round robin matches in four groups of four, playing down to semi-finalists and then the finalists.
David Sutcliffe, of hosts Todmorden Park bowlers, said it was the second time the town has hosted the event, the first being a highly successful event last year.
“Last year I’ve never seen so many people at the Todmorden Park bowling greens, where we had some excellent weather and bowling,” he said.
Mr Sutcliffe said catering would be available all day and a good day’s sport was in prospect.
In March the greens were the venue for the British Crown Green Championships and Todmorden is set to host more national events through the year.
