Bowlers from 12 counties battle it out

Bowlers representing 12 different counties battled it out in the British Crown Green Championships at Centre Vale Park, Todmorden, on Sunday.

Each team had eight bowlers, including some of the country’s top players.

A strong team from Tonge, representing Greater Manchester were the eventual winners, beating Bradfield from Sheffield, representing South Yorkshire, in the final.

One of the country’s foremost bowlers, Gary Ellis, was the star for Tonge.

In the semi-final against Highway Social Club, who represented the North Midlands, he beat an opponent 21 - 0.

In the final he also beat a Bradfield opponent 21 - 6.

The event should have taken place last October, but was abandoned due to heavy rain.
