Course bites back on low scorers

WHAT a difference a week made at Todmorden Golf Club.

After last week’s superb scores with no less than 16 players beating their handicap, it was the turn of the course to bite back.

With very firm ground and a testing Westerly breeze, this proved to be the case, with only a few players able to match last week’s achievement.

The first of six qualifying Monthly Medals was played, with the top tiger and rabbit (0-15 and 16 to 28 handicap players) progressing to the Gold Medal Final played in October.

The first two qualifiers were Ian Tootell on 67, on a card play-off from competition secretary John Whitham, who also won the nearest the pin prize on the par three fifth hole.

The other nearest the pin prize on the 16th hole was won by Christian Godfrey.

The twos this week were achieved by I.Tootell, J.Whitham, N.Chrimes, P.Gale, C.Godfrey, T.Hemmington and W.Simpson.

Another busy week for the club sees the Royal Wedding day competition and street party on Friday and the Club Centenary competition on Saturday.
