10-man visitors hold Brighouse

Brighouse Town let a two-goal lead slip against 10 men and drew 2-2 at home to regular rivals Glossop North End yesterday.

Ex-Halifax Town striker Jamie Rainford got a red card after only three minutes in the fourth meeting of the season between the sides.

When Brighouse’s recent recruit Devonte Morton tapped home the opening goal after 22 minutes and then set up Jack Stockdill to volley a second after 54 minutes, it looked game over.

However, Brighouse haven’t won since mid-October and Benjamin Richardson quickly pulled one back for the visitors, who had beaten Town 2-0 in Derbyshire recently but earlier lost a cup replay at Hove Edge.

Glossop equalised on 69 minutes through Sam Barnes and it remained 2-2, both sides losing ground in an open Evo-Stik NPL Division One North promotion race.

Rainford later apologised via social media to his teammates and travelling supporters.

Glossop dropped to fourth while Town are seventh, having drawn five of their last seven matches.

Brighouse travel to 17th placed Hyde United on Tuesday and fifth-placed Trafford next Saturday.
