Brighouse lose top spot

Brighouse Town were knocked off the top of the Evo-Stik NPL's First Division North table when they lost 1-0 at home to Lancaster City today.

Billy Akrigg got the visitors’ all important goal in the 67th minute.

Lancaster were repeating their successful raid of September 3 when they beat Brighouse 3-0 in the cup.

Since then Paul Quinn’s side had lost only one game in 11 outings.

Brighouse slipped to third below new leaders Farsley Celtic and Lancaster.

Remarkably, five teams have 28 points at the top and are separated by goal difference. Glossop North End are fourth and Scarborough Athletic fifth.

Brighouse have a chance to regain top spot when they host Trafford on Monday. Trafford are 10th following a goalless draw at home to Scarborough today.
