Walsden C & FC missed a chance to move up to fourth in the Premier Division when they could only manage a 2-2 draw away to Star Athletic in the Rochdale Online Alliance.
Star are bottom and went into the game on their 3G pitch at Hopwood Hall with only four points, although they had hinted at better things to come with a useful draw in their previous outing .
All the goals came in the first half and both sides finished with 10 men, Walsden’s Nathan Rooks being the visiting player to get his marching orders.
Walsden had a few half chances before Star broke and took the lead with a header.
The visitors drew level when they were awarded a penalty for ‘foot up’ and Danny Brown rolled the ball past the home ‘keeper, who had been slow to prepare for the spot kick.
Star had a player dismissed for kicking out and Walsden looked to have the upper hand but the home side regained the lead.
Brown added his second and Rooks hit the woodwork before getting his marching orders for dissent with 15 minutes to go.
Walsden are without a game this weekend and will then tackle White Lion at Firgrove on January 25.
The sides drew 1-1 at Walsden at the start of November.
