Halifax Town's FA Cup foes Eastleigh have been stunned by the departure of veteran boss Ronnie Moore.

The 63-year-old has left due to ‘personal circumstances’ and it is unclear who will be in charge of the home side in Sunday’s second round tie in Hampshire.

An Eastleigh FC statement said: “The club would like to announce that due to personal circumstances over the past few weeks the club have agreed to terminate Ronnie Moore’s contract with immediate affect [sic].”

Moore is an odds on favourite for the vacant job at Championship strugglers Rotherham, where Kenny Jackett has quit after the televised defeat by Leeds United.

Moore has had two spells in charge of the Millers and still lives in South Yorkshire.

While Town have suffered a form slump recently, crashing out of the FA Trophy in Tuesday’s home replay with Matlock, National League side Eastleigh have suffered back to back defeats.

They lost 2-1 at struggling Maidstone on Tuesday, having gone down 3-0 at home to Chester on Saturday.

They have won only once in the league since October 25 and are eight points off the play-off places.
