Walsden in bad books

Walsden C & FC lost 3-1 to King William IV in the Rochdale Online Alliance and finished the game frustrated after several contentious decisions.

That led to a handful of bookings for the new side on a bobbly surface at Kingsway Sports Centre.

The performances of Danny Brown in midfield and Mark Fielding at centre half were the plus points for Walsden, who trailed 1-0 after a fairly even first half.

A long ball over the top enabled King William to double their lead after 65 minutes and when the home side added a third within five minutes it looked game over.

However, Brown scored with 10 minutes to go and Walsden’s attempts to make further inroads into the lead were frustrated by the official.

A Gary Brierley goal from a free kick was ruled out and the visitors were twice brought back from one-on-ones with the home ‘keeper for offside.

New boss Steve Sale should be on the touchline for the first time on Saturday. Walsden were awaiting confirmation that they were playing Westdene away.
