Woodhouse take heart from a much-improved show in defeat

Woodhouse United took plenty of positives from their return to action in Division One of the Rochdale Sunday League last weekend.

Although they remain bottom after a 3-1 defeat at Crompton, centre back Chris Ford said it had been a good performance and United had shown plenty of spirit.

The highlight was a superb goal from Jack Naylor, who lobbed the ‘keeper from wide on the left, the ball going in off the under side of the bar.

That made it 1-1, Crompton having taken the lead following a slip by Joe Connor early in the second half.

A lack of fitness and errors eventually cost Woodhouse but Ford said it had been an improved display with fullbacks Ryan Bullock and Tommy Uttley and midfielder Matty Ormerod to the fore.

Defeat means Woodhouse look sure to be relegated but ex-boss Ford said: “If we go down it will give us a chance to reshape and regroup. We have a lot of young players.”
