THERE were good bowling and batting performances from Walsden, but it was not enough to prevent from slipping to defeat at Werneth.

Walsden’s total of 157 for nine was always one that might be threatened, but once Doug Waghorn had dismissed both openers with only 11 on the board, the visitors looked to be in with a great chance.

H.Abbas and L Ashton then set about the home attack and hit 58 and 30 respectively.

But it was Walsden’s total of 27 extras that was their undoing as Werneth reached 159 for nine with seven balls to spare.

Waghorn finished with four for 30 and professional Duminda Perera also chipped in with three for 33.

Earlier Perera had scored 50 in Walsden’s innings and opener Matthew Dawson topscored on 66.

l WALSDEN seconds continued their winning ways, beating Werneth at home by six wickets.

The visitors opened with 210 for nine. All the Walsden bowlers contributed, but Daniel Jones took three for 23.

In reply Walsden knocked off 210 for the loss of four wickets. All the batsmen were in the runs, with Kris Garland topscoring with 62.

Danny Bailey got 42, Daniel Howley 30 and Joe Gale 34.
