HEBDEN Royd bounced back after last week’s defeat and showed what teamwork and commitment is all about.
They travelled to Castleford for a tricky and physical encounter.
Hebden started the better team and on five minutes Hanna O’Donoghue hit the bar followed soon after by a Rebecca Payne shot that was just wide.
Paula Statham in Hebden’s goal is looking stronger and more confident each week.
Her marshalling from the back gives the team confidence but she was caught out in the 17th minute from a corner that evaded her grasp and fell to the centre forward who tapped in on the line.
Minutes later Payne’s effort was rewarded when after her long range shot was well saved, she followed it in and as the keeper pushed it away she was on hand to slot the ball into the net.
On the half hour Castleford were awarded a free kick on the left hand side. A flighted ball into the box was left unchallenged and they scored with a free header to go 2-1 up at half-time.
Hebden had it all to do in the second half.
Again they started the better with Rebecca McMahon and Sam Billington well in control in defence.
Captain Sara Clegg assisted by Jenna Cobham in midfield battled bravely with Hazel Lockwood providing some classy skills to the annoyance of the home team.
A foul upon Lockwood saw her take the resultant free kick from 22 yards out that beat the keeper to draw level.
The last 20 minutes were frantic but the best chance of the game fell to Hebden when Payne beat the defender and her shot rattled the woodwork.
The local ladies gave 100 per cent effort this week and it was a well deserved point.
Hebden Royd entertains Silsden at home this Sunday at 2pm.
