Royal George 2
Chadderton Youth 2
Rochdale Sunday League Division Three
AN 88th minute equaliser knocked the stuffing out of Royal George, who had been hoping for a win to follow last week’s success.
The club has quietly gone about a building and consolidation process and is eagerly looking forward to even more progress next season.
As well as the late equaliser, George had suffered a similar fate in the first half when the visitors went ahead after 40 minutes with a free header on the far post.
Before that George had several chances to take the lead, the best falling to Johnny Sutcliffe and Connor Fowler, whose 25-yard shot shaved the outside of the post.
Not long into the second half a Tommy Uttley cross was headed in by James Staroszczuk to level. It was soon followed by another as Darrell Rhodes fired them into the lead after the ball had deflected to him off a visiting player.
Sutcliffe, the division’s joint leading scorer, went close several times as did other players before the late equaliser, which came from a misplaced clearance attempt.
There was still time for Sutcliffe to try to hit the winner, but he shot just wide.
