Angling: Taster Day on Sunday
TODMORDEN Angling Society, now in its 75th year, is hosting its second Taster Day of the year at Ramsden Wood Fishery, Walsden, on Sunday (August 22).
You can reach it by travelling up Ramsden Wood Road and once again there will be expert anglers with fishing tackle set up ready to show you how to fish.
All you need to do is turn up - there is no charge and bait, licences and tackle for your session will be provided.
The water has recently been restored and heavily stocked with fish, so most who try will catch!
Eighteen anglers fished the recent open match at Castleton on the Rochdale Canal, where Steve Crossley came out the winner, catching roach on squatt.
Dave Brierley was second with Martin Taylor third and Simon Walton fourth, all also catching roach.
Result: 1, S. Crossley (Maver NW) 11lb 11oz; 2, D. Brierley (Fisherman's Way), 11lb 6oz; 3, M. Taylor (Tricast), 10lb; 4, S. Walton (Maver NW), 9lb 10oz.
The final open match in the series (on the canal) will be on August 29 on Summit section. Ring 077699 05319 to book on.
Eighteen members were at Croft to fish the latest trophy match, Tom Barlow edging it from Jake Nightingale with a catch of carp and skimmers caught using pole and meat. Jake's catch included three carp. Mick Clegg was third.
Result: 1, T. Barlow, 24lb 8oz; 2, J. Nightingale, 22lb 2oz; 3, M. Clegg, 16lb 4oz.
The fish of the day was a mirror carp of 12lb 4oz caught by Jake Nightingale.

Last Tuesday's match on Croft was fished by 13 anglers and won by Mick Clegg with Tom Barlow second and Jake Nightingale third.
Result: 1, M. Clegg, 15lb 6oz; 2, T. Barlow, 11lb 10oz; 3, J. Nightingale, 10lb.
Next Tuesday's match is also on Croft, and this will also be the venue for the final match of the series which will be on Bank Holiday Monday (draw up to 1.45pm, fishing from 2.30pm to 7.30pm).
