Borough ease into cup draw: Cracking day for Adams family

Todmorden Borough 4 GSK Ulverston Rangs 0

Challenge Cup 1st Round

BOROUGH moved smoothly into round two of the cup - earning a home tie against high-flying Longridge Town in the process.

Conditions were not perfect with the Bellholme pitch very heavy but both sides fought for supremacy in an entertaining first-hlaf.

Three minutes before the interval Borough finally broke the deadlock when Nathan Adams won the ball in midfield and found Chris Kay on the right. In turn he launched a crossfield pass which Matthew Saxon met at the far post to score a well worked goal.

For the second week in succession Borough goalkeeper Paul Terry was a virtual spectator as his side extended their lead ten minutes into the second-half, Alistair Harrison seeing his initial shot from a corner cleared off the line but he reacted quickly to stab home the rebound.

Danny Welsh was having an influential afternoon in midfield and he combined with Kay to send Nathan Adams clear, sliding the ball under the Cumbrian goalkeeper for a fine goal.

Five minutes later Welsh played Oliver Wood through and he finished well to cap a fine performance.

JUSTIN Adams scored a fine hat-trick as Borough recorded a comfortable win at the league's bottom club.

James Peavoy and Chris Ross anchored the display from midfield while firstly Dave Patrick and then substitute Craig Best proved willing and effective foils for Adams up front.

His first goal came after a period of sustained pressure when he turned and fired home from close range for the only goal of the first-half.

After being under the cosh for ten minutes after the interval, Borough found their feet again and had already hit the woodwork before Adams beat two defenders to fire home.

He poked home his and Todmorden's third and with Terry Lowe and Dean Lawson providing good service from out wide it always looked as if there were more goals in the game.

They didn't come but Borough were still happy with three points.
