Cricket: Bridgeholme and second eleven reports

WALSDEN seconds had just a point to show for a tough weekend of cricket.

On Saturday they struggled to get runs on the board despite a fine 42 from opener James Satroszczuk.

Joe Hanson, 19, Jake Hooson, 15, and Dan Howley, 12, chipped in but a combination of Whiteley, 5 for 39, and Sajewicz, 4 for 32, restricted them to 131 all out.

Calum Hallinan and James Driver then took two quick wickets to give Radcliffe food for thought but an unbeaten 62 from Berlin saw the home side to victory in 24 overs.

- A strengthened side took a losing point from the second team derby against Littleborough at Scott Street.

Littleborough were put under early pressure when Gareth Brandwood and Hallinan took early wickets.

Calum Bamford, 23, and Gar Hunter, 22, steadied the ship but the real damage to Walsden came from Adam Rose, 46, and Chris Dearden, 32, whose sixth wicket partnership pushed the Boro total to 200.

Hallanan - one of Walsden's many promising teenagers - underlined his potential with a very successful second spell which wrapped up the tail quickly and gave him impressive match figures of 5 for 29 from 7.4 overs.

Openers Ross Ridout and Jake Hooson got the reply off to a good start but the introduction of Dearden broke a fine partnership.

Hooson went for 30 but Gareth Brandwood and Ridout continued to push the score along.

Unfortunately they both went in quick succession - Dearden's looped deliveries proving too tempting for Ridout who was stumped for 50 and then Danny Jones had Brandwood caught four runs short of his collection.

With Dearden also snaring Howley and Staroszczuk for one apiece the guts was ripped out of the reply.

Driver hit a defiant 20 and Bradley Fisher was unbeaten on 10 as Walsden took a point and restricted the visitors to four.

Nazkat knock ends Bridge's losing run

- BRIDGEHOLME'S roller-coaster ride in Division one of the Halifax League continued on Saturday.

Having been promoted as champions last year Bridgeholme won their first two games at the higher level only the lose the next eight.

They broke that unfortunate sequence with a two wicket win over Low Moor.

Nazkat Ali's six for 80 restricted Moor to 234 for nine despite Nick Wood's 82 off 67 balls but that looked as if it might be enough as Bridgeholme were reduced to 106 for seven.

Tuffique Butt, 91, and Chris Kibble, 48no, had other ideas, turning the game on its head with a fine partnership which all but sealed victory.

Harris is inspiration for back-to-back wins

BRIDGEHOLME seconds' run of good form continued on Saturday with a home win against second-in-the-league Wibsey Park.

On a hot, sultry afternoon confident batting by opener Harris, 25, Abbas, 37, S Mahmood, 40,and T Mahmood, 29, saw the home side post 195 all out in the 41st over.

When the visitors came in to bat, Bridgeholme's bowling was devastating with Harris taking four wickets off eight overs for 22 runs, O Davy-Day three for 29 off 7 and T Mahmood two for 29.

A last man stand between Gill, 21, coming in after four ducks in a row, and K Patel, 45 not out, kept the home fans' hearts in their mouths before O Davy-Day bowled Gill and sealed Bridgeholme's first back-to-back win of the season by 65 runs.
