Cricket: Howzat for three expert speakers

THREE Calder Valley cricket experts will be among the speakers at the University if Huddersfield's cricket research centre annual meeting this Saturday.

Held at the Castle Hill Suite at the university's main campus at Queensgate, Huddersfield, from 10am to 4pm - with a break for lunch - on Saturday, March 20, all are welcome to attend and entry is free.

During the morning session (10.15am), Hebden Bridge sports journalist Andrew Collemosse will talk about "League Cricket and Life In The Press Box" and he will be followed during the afternoon by Walsden Cricket Club stalwart Allan Stuttard and Todmorden cricket historian Brian Heywood.

At 1.45pm, and speaking about seven decades of cricket memories involving test stars and local legends, Allan will speak about "Old Laithe To Roil's Head: From The Dizzy Heights of Hebden Bridge to the Even Dizzier Heights of Halifax."

Then at 2.30pm Brian, co-author with Malcolm and Freda Heywood of "Cloth Caps and Crazy Cricket", which looked into Todmorden CC's early history and that of sport and leisure in the town, will speak about "Cricket On Film".

Each session consists of a talk by the speaker, followed by around 20 minutes of discussion about the topic.
