UNITED took the points from a hard-fought derby match on Sunday.
Wellington, who have become a much improved side over the past couple of games defended well and took the lead when, with their first attack of the game, they won a penalty which Oliver Challis dispatched.
The home side continued to create chances but it was not until Gaz Fish poked the equaliser home after a scramble following a corner that they could breathe a big sigh of relief.
Ashley Hignett struck to give United the lead at the interval and they spent the second-half camped in the Wellington half.
Hignett added a second goal and Joe Whitham was also on target as United finally found their shooting boots.
Josh Thompson came on as substitute to round off a good morning's work when, despite being one of the shortest men on the field, he headed in with his first touch of the ball.
United are now second in the table and with five games still to play promotion is very much within their grasp.
"Our target has to be three points from each of those five games," manager Matthew Town said. "If we do that it doesn't matter what anyone else does."
