Golf: Louie is hot stuff on a perishing ladies day

IT was windy, raining and freezing cold on June 18. That could mean only one thing - Ladies Day at Todmorden Golf Club, writes Irena Brown.

So once again it was on with the vests, woolly hats and winter gloves - well, after all summer didn't actually start until Sunday!

The aim on the day was to with club captain Mr Terry Makin's prize.

Once again everyone set off with a ball donated by Mr Captain but mine did not seem to want to play the game.

At the end of a hard round the captain came along to present the lovely prizes which had been on show all day to encourage play.

There was a nearest the pin prize on the 16th hole but it was difficult enough to even get to the green with the wind.

Heidi Woodhead was once exception, landing her ball just 7 feet and one inch from the hole on her way to 31 points and third place.

Linda Bell was second with 32 points and it is rumoured that her husband is saving up for a piano, but the winner, with 34 points, was Louie Hollows.

Summer League

Round four saw at least a spell of dry, if not warm, weather.

This week's challenge was to play a shot with a seven iron on each hole. Not just as straightforward as it may have first appeared.

Once again Henry Damer and Mark Hamer both put in good performances to maintain their push towards the top of the table, but for the third consecutive time the last man back to the clubhouse won the day.

Once again that was Matthew Edwards showing that he is a steady golfer regardless of format. This second win of the series takes Matthew back to the top of the table.

David Arrowsmith and Steve McCarron came in tied for second place.
