The visitors from near Castleford made 165 for seven off 30 overs with Dannyaal Ahmed (three for 27) pick of the home attack.

However, the Russell Way men were dismissed for 48 in reply, Jack Hughes following up his earlier 42 with five for seven.

Nadim Hussain, who played for Brighouse last season, claimed three for 22.

In the Premier, Lightcliffe’s bid to avenge last season’s Priestley Cup final defeat by Bradford & Bingley was thwarted by the weather.

After a delayed start, a 30 over contest was hit by further stoppages. Bradford & Bingley were 47 without loss at the first stoppage and when play resumed Rob Burton took three wickets in five balls.

Opener Jack Edgar stood firm with 68 not out and Martin Walker added 32 as the Wagon Lane men finished on 154 for six.

Lightcliffe had reached 11 in the sixth over, for the loss of Chris Taylor, when play was abandoned.

Northowram Fields’s game at home to Great Preston in the Conference was interestingly poised before heavy rain ended matters.

The visitors, making their first visit to Westercroft Lane, were 51 for six but recovered to finish on 154 with Aussie all-rounder Jackson Freeman carrying his bat for 92 not out.

Home openers Ben Grech (42) and Majid Jahangir (46) helped the Rams to 110 for one but with the rain clouds moving in, fast-bowler Freeman returned to the attack to take three wickets and play finished with the hosts 119 for five.

In the Huddersfield League, Barkisland’s game at Broad Oak failed to start while Elland lost a rain-affected contest at home to Golcar by four wickets.

Ali Nadeem top scored with 42 in Elland’s 136 for seven. Rain left the visitors needing 128 for victory and they got them for the loss of six wickets with Aussie Josh Dallimore picking up three victims.

Illingworth’s Aire/Wharfe League match at Colton was ended early in the second half.

Illingworth got off to a good start with Luke Brooksby and Ben Robertshaw reducing the hosts to 26 for two. After a rain break and early tea, this then became 70 for five as Stephen Cook, Jamie Moorhouse and a run out from Daniel Murfet did the damage.

Colton, one of the favourites for promotion, then rallied as David Wright and Bradley Firn took the score up towards the 200 mark, helped by some dropped catches. The hosts declared on 208 for eight after 41 overs, meaning that both sides could achieve full points having had an equal amount of overs.

Daniel Murfet (25 not out) was looking in good touch before rain intervened once more with the visitors 35 for one.

Not a ball was bowled in Todmorden’s match against Lowerhouse in the Lancashire League while Austerlands were 47 for two off 10, with their pro Sachin Rana back in the pavilion, when the Pennine League match was ended by rain.
