Quiz League: House pounce after Hare fall at last hurdle

JACK'S House retained their Todmorden Quiz League title after Hare and Hounds B faltered at the last hurdle last week.

Hare and Hounds A were unable to prevent Jack's House from winning their match, which knocked Con Club out of the equation and turned all eyes on Todmorden Cricket Club, where Hounds B were the visitors.

A win would have guaranteed them the title but they found the Cricketers in robust form. They went ahead in the early rounds and this was maintained throughout the match. Their lead was 15 points after round 8 and even though Hounds B pulled back 5 points in the penultimate round the Cricketers were easy winners.

Con Club's score was the highest of the night in their comprehensive defeat of Shannon but in terms of the title it was in vain. At home against Woodpecker, Bird team forged ahead in the early stages but a poor link round allowed Pecker within 2 points of the lead. A nip and tuck second half finally gave the away team victory by a single point.

In the end, the runners-up spot was decided by the closest of margins - on total points scored Con Club lost out by a single point in a total well over 1000. Hounds B therefore secured the runners-up spot.

Results: Bird I' Th' Hand 58, Woodpecker 59; Hare and Hounds A 61, Jack's House 67; Con Club 76, Shannon 53; Todmorden CC 74, Hare and Hounds B 59.
